Memoria Press Publishing for Highlands Latin School Teachers
Publishing
At Highlands Latin School, your children will have the unique opportunity to learn from many of the master teachers who wrote the textbooks used in our classes.
Cheryl Lowe
In 1996, Cheryl Lowe wrote the most popular Christian Latin program available today. Her Latina Christiana course has been used by more than 150,000 students and is carried by textbook distributors in the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. Cheryl is working on her new, advanced Latin course, First Form, which is already being taught at Highlands Latin.
Leigh Lowe
Following on the success of Latina Christiana, Leigh Lowe wrote Prima Latina, an introductory Latin program for students in 1st - 4th Grade. Released in 2002, Prima Latina has experienced the same acclaim and acceptance as Cheryl's Latina Christiana. Leigh, along with many other teachers, is developing a set of English guides to be released over the next few years. Leigh also teaches in a series of Latin DVD courses that are used to train and prepare new Latin teachers and students across the country.
Martin Cothran
While teaching at classical schools in Louisville and Lexington, Martin Cothran wrote his Traditional Logic series and, most recently, a course on Classical Rhetoric. Martin's books are the leading publications in upper level classical education and are empowering thousands of teachers and students to delve into the advanced stages of the trivium. Martin is currently completing several new logic and rhetoric courses (used currently in Highlands Latin) to provide a complete high school trivium curriculum.
Tanya Charlton
Both of Tanya's children have attended Highlands Latin School, and she was one of the first teachers to join our faculty. After several years of teaching 5th Grade, Tanya wrote the Famous Men of the Middle Ages guides and edited the Famous Men of the Middle Ages Text. She is currently finishing up guides to the Famous Men of Greece and has plans for several other classical studies titles in the future. Her guides are favorites among classical educators throughout the country.
The textbooks developed by teachers at Highlands Latin are published by Memoria Press, a publishing company founded by Cheryl Lowe. These unique publishing opportunities allow Highlands Latin to attract outstanding faculty with a unique depth of knowledge in their fields. Several of our current faculty members are working on books scheduled to be published over the next few years - your HLS students are privy to their expertise as teachers and scholars well before their books are released.
Memoria Press is on the web at www.memoriapress.com.
In addition to the textbooks published by Highland Latin teachers, HLS is fortunate to have Wendell Berry teach Senior English to our high school students. Mr. Berry is the author of more than 30 books of essays, poetry, and novels. He is a former professor of English at the University of Kentucky and a past fellow of both the Guggenheim Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. He has received numerous awards for his work, including an award from the National Institute and Academy of Arts and Letters and, most recently, the T.S. Eliot Award.
