Highlands Latin School Seniors Excel on SAT
Highlands Latin School seniors were rewarded for their years of diligent work with an outstanding average SAT score of 1976 compared to a national average of 1511 for college bound seniors. "I am proud of what these young men and women have accomplished." said principal Shawn Wheatley. "It is really a testament to the effort put forth by the students, their parents, and their teachers."
HLS Students Shine at Winter Semi-formal

To banish winter doldrums, HLS Houses George and Andrew sponsored a semi-formal dance, held in the beautiful HLS dining hall. Dressed in coats and ties, guys were amazingly handsome and girls, of course, were dazzling in their gorgeous dresses. HLS parent John Spencer, assisted by his 5th grade son Christopher, was the DJ with all the best dance music and favorite tunes. Electric slide and Macarena never fail to get all the students up dancing - and a few of the teachers!
A Dance at Grandpa’s for Second Grade!

To celebrate the achievement of reading Little House in the Big Woods, our second graders plan a Dance at Grandpa's, based on one of the chapters in this well-loved book. Dressed in costume, students, parents, and teachers enjoy a fiddler and sip apple cider with their pancakes and maple syrup. Students make corn husk dolls and play hop scotch, pick up sticks, checkers, jump rope, and rolling hoops.

HLS history teacher, Ken Dennis, spent his summers in Hollywood growing up and has a wealth of knowledge and anecdotes about movie stars and the movie industry, which he has shared with out students at the HLS Classic Movie showings. Mr. Dennis has written two articles published this year for Films of the Golden Age:

Winners of the 2007 Scripps National Spelling Bee and the 2007 National Vocabulary Championship cite textbooks written by two Highlands Latin School teachers as keys to winning.
Textbooks written by Highlands Latin School teachers Cheryl Lowe and Martin Cothran were key tools used by the winners of both the 2007 National Spelling Bee and National Vocabulary Championship to prepare for the competitions.
Seniors Score Highest ACT, Second Highest SAT in Louisville

HLS has completed another successful year with the highest ACT and second highest SAT scores in Louisville and a ranking in the top 1% of schools across the country for K-8th grade.
Two HLS Seniors Recognized by National Merit Program

In the last three years, 25% of graduating Highlands Latin seniors have been recognized as National Merit Semifinalists or Commended Scholars.
Six Students Score Four or Higher on AP Vergil Latin Exam Compared to Thirteen in Entire State Last Year

Six Highlands Latin School students scored a 4 or better on the AP Vergil Latin Exam in 2007. In 2006, only thirteen students in the state of Kentucky scored 4 or 5 on the AP Vergil Latin exam.
