American Modern Studies
In American/Modern Studies students study American history, geography, and literature, as well as world geography and non-western cultures. Students are prepared for two AP exams, US history and Modern European History.
Syllabus, Grades K-12
- Grades K-2 Identify continents, oceans, equator, poles, tropics, major countries, and some states on both a map and globe. Stories of Great Americans for Little Americans by Edward Eggleston
- Grade 3 Identify 50 states and eight regions on U.S. map. Recite states, abbreviations, nicknames, and capitals.
- Grade 4 Review states, capitals, and spelling. KY geography and early history. Learn 8 periods of U.S. history with dates. Recite presidents in order.

- Grade 10 A Concise History of the American Republic, Vol II by Morison, Commager and Leuchtenburg. The Spirit of St. Louis, To Kill a Mockingbird. Students take AP US History Exam.
- Grade 11 A History of the Modern World Vol I, by Palmer and Colton. A Tale of Two Cities.
- Grade 12 A History of the Modern World Vol II, by Palmer and Colton. All Quiet on the Western Front. Students take AP Modern European History Exam.
